All Birds of Sweden
About:
With my current project All Birds of Sweden I’m producing all birds of Sweden in life size, made into candles. My aim is to have all 274 birds produced by fall 2021 along with a book on the subjects that will be published at the same time.The making process of the birds is executed by myself as follows: The bird is modelled to life size in clay; a silicone mold is made, and finally it is cast in stearin(candle wax). The project theme visits the context of the 16-17 centuries vanitas tradition that articulate the ephemeral qualities of life through still life paintings.
In turn, sub-themes such as migration, obsession, death and nature romanticism are triggered into play.
